I think having a set of specific criteria, used for determining the "label" or nature of the music is very useful. Of course, there are exceptions I like classical performers such as Glenn Gould, etc. When I'm interested in music itself, not stars or performers or singers, this is the label I go to. So it's usually of the highest artistic standards and musical content. Well, according to the set of criteria I've developed over the course of my listening career, "classical" music is music that deals primarily with musical ideas in other words, it does not represent a lifestyle or a market, or an industry.
